In the past many years, CNC and robots have adopted specialized systems, including specialized controllers, specialized bus systems, specialized programming environments, and languages. From a historical perspective, traditional PLCs cannot meet the processing task requirements of CNC and robots, and low-speed field buses cannot meet the data transmission and speed loop response requirements of CNC interpolation operations. Similarly, for robots, the calculated values of their homogeneous conversion library need to be transmitted to the motion control system through high-speed buses, which also requires high-speed data buses.


Today, with the development of IT technology, communication technology, and software technology, the applications of CNC and robots are gradually changing. Similarly, today's customers' needs have become more demanding, and they have more needs. With the development of IT technology, the processing speed of Intel and AMD's embedded CPUs has become faster and faster. FPGA technology makes high-speed encoder signal acquisition easier, while real-time communication technologies such as POWERLINK, SERCOSIII, Metrolink, etc. make communication between master and slave stations faster, reaching updates below 100uS.




On the other hand, it lies in the development of intelligent servo drive technology. Traditional CNC and robots place speed and position loop control on the main station, which inevitably brings high requirements for bus data transmission. However, today, intelligent servo systems can handle speed and position loop tasks locally and can achieve many functions, which reduces the task cycle required by the original CNC system, And putting more tasks on software craftsmanship has brought about a huge transformation.


Today, traditional CNC controller suppliers and robot manufacturers are both seeking a more universal hardware platform to run their applications. PC is a great platform, but Windows' PC technology requires additional real-time expansion due to its real-time task processing capabilities. Even so, this also means that general hardware platforms are maturing and representing future development trends.
